ageLOC Summary

What is ageLOC?

  • ageLOC slows aging and even reverses signs of aging by attacking the sources of aging

 How does ageLOC do this?

  • By identifying age-related youth gene clusters and then supporting the functionality of the “youth gene clusters” that preserve youth.

Where are these Youth Gene clusters found?

  • There are several Youth Gene Clusters and they are all located in the human genome.

Why are these Youth Gene clusters so important?

  • They control the aging process.

How did you find these YGCs responsible for aging?

  • Decades of study on biological aging, combined with the sequencing of the human genome in 2003 and the advent of modern computer technologies enables the identification of groups of genes that we call “Youth Gene Clusters.” The key insight originated from 30 years of research on caloric restriction, the only method validated by science to preserve youth. Such research has been the focus of our partners, LifeGen Technologies. Caloric restriction revealed that humans live longer and tissues work better when caloric intake is restricted. In subsequent caloric restriction studies, the molecular mechanism is then shown to be related to a profound effect on certain genes.

Are there patents covering these key insights?

  • Yes, one of the major patents is: US Patent 7,041,449 entitled “Methods of screening for compounds that inhibit expression of biomarker sequences differentially expressed with age in mice, Prolla et al.”. Several provisional patents have also been filed at the US Patent Office.

Why are they called Youth Gene Clusters?

  • Aging is never caused by a single gene. YGCs consist of multiple genes, the activity of which is either reduced or increased as we age.

With this key insight, how do you then affect YGCs to produce an anti-aging effect?

  • By resetting YGCs to their youthful state with ageLOC ingredients that are carefully blended to give an optimal effect.

Do you have any published data substantiating ageLOC science?

  • The following papers described the foundational science behind ageLOC:

Deadly Visceral Fat

Visceral fat is different from other body fat. Visceral fat, also called intra-abdominal fat, refers to the fat that surrounds the internal organs. Subcutaneous fat, on the other hand, is body fat that is close to the skin’s surface and is considered less dangerous, and easier to lose, than visceral fat.

Studies have shown that those with visceral fat are more susceptible to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and hypertension. Sedentary people, smokers and drinkers have been shown to have more intra-abdominal fat, or visceral fat, than active people who are non-smokers and non-drinkers. Stress may also be a factor in the storage of visceral fat on the body. LookSlimButFat InsideVFAT

So, find out what is your visceral fat reading today and do something about it before it is too late.

3rd Fact: Free Radicals are the Culprit of Cellular Rust

Many of us may have come across the metal oxidation phenomenon. The same thing  happens inside our body, and it’s called “cellular rust”. Our body undergoes oxidation as a result of free radical damage. Free radicals are atoms or atomic groups containing odd number of electrons. Unpaired electrons are extremely reactive; hence, they have strong tendency to exist in a paired state to become stable. As a result, these unpaired electrons, indiscriminately plunder electrons from other parts of the body (cell membrane, DNA), causing a chain reaction which leads to substantial cell damage.

4th Fact: Free Radicals cause Accelerated Aging

It was once said that there were 300 theories on the cause of aging, but modern science proposed that free radicals reactions are the main culprit.

In 1954, University of Nebraska Medical Center Emeritus Professor, Dr. Denham Harman, M.D, PhD, proposed The Free Radical Theory of Aging . Harman believes that when free radicals damage the cell nuclei and mitochondria’s DNA, the rate of cellular damage exceeds the rate of cellular repair. When aged and dead cells are greater in numbers than new and functional cells, we then begin to lose our youthful attributes.

5th Fact: Free Radicals Promote Cardiovascular Disease

When cholesterol piles up in the inner walls of the blood vessels, plaques are formed. The process involves oxidized cholestorel, namely the low-density lipoproteins (LDL), also known as the bad cholestorel. LDL is easily oxidized by free radicals to form a foam-like substance; in which occludes the walls of the blood vessels.

6th Fact: Free Radicals Aggravate Cancer Cells Formation

Free Radicals are the main culprit for carcinogenesis to occur. Free Radicals cause sudden cell mutations, in which mutated cells will undergo abnormal division and proliferation. The proliferated cells are known as cancer cells. Cancer cells do not have any function but they will spread to different parts of the body and plunder the nutrients in the body, which may affect the growth of normal cells. To make matters worse, these cancer cells have the ability to multiply into unlimited number of times and metastasize or spread to other organs or tissues of the body. To fight against cancer, it is crucial to fight free radicals first!

7th Fact: Free Radicals trigger Cataract

According to statistics, the incidences of cataract are as follow:

60% in those 50 years and above

80% in those 60 years and above

Up to 90% in those 70 years and above.

The main cause of senile cataract is the gradual oxidation of the aqueous humour of the eyes by free radicals. Excessive exposure to light (especially ultraviolet radiation) or cigarette smoke will stimulate changes in the aqueous humour to produce harmful free radicals. These free radicals are powerful oxidizing agents; which trigger a series of biochemical chain reactions inside the aqueous humour to gradually form cataract. It is therefore important to protect the eyes when exposed to intense sunlight and stop smoking.

8th Fact: Free Radicals Multiply when you Suppress Your Bladder

The impact of suppressing the urge for clearing the bladder is always negative. Besides reducing the immune defense of the bladder mucosa, opportunistic pathogens cause acute cystitis and hematuria, and even renal diseases. Professor Chen Chao Feng from Medical College Physiology Research Institute of National Taiwan University pointed out that the longer we control micturition, the more free radicals we create. Free radicals may cause bladder mucosa cells to perish. Chronic damage results in weakened bladder muscles and increased serum concentration of free radicals. In addition, suppressing micturition can also rapidly elevate the blood pressure.

9th Fact: Exercise create more free radicals in the body

Exercise is good for health. The benefits include helping us to relax, preventing cardiovascular diseases and keeping our joins flexible. However, you may not be aware that we produce higher level s of free radicals during exercise. This is because our body needs lots of oxygen for exercising resulting in the production of more free radicals.

The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine suggests that people 40 years old and above should refrain from doing strenuous exercise in order to avoid producing excessive free radicals. On the other hand, take more anti-oxidant supplements to vitamin C, E, beta-carotne and consume a wide variety of vegetables and fruits to neutralize excess free radicals in the body.

10th Fact: Free Radicals Flourish in Glucose

In recent years, people have too much to eat, they exercise less, resulting in an increase to the number of people with diabetes. It is estimated that at least 1 million people in this world are being identified as too “sweet”!

Preliminary research indicates four possible mechanism that suggest free radicals as the culprit:

  1. When the blood sugar levels are high, intrinsic antioxidants that neutralize toxic free radicals in the body are depleted.
  2. Free radicals damage the Islets of Langerhans causing the glucose metabolism to become abnormal.
  3. When glucose level in the bloodstream is high, it will undergo “self oxidation”, resulting in an excessive release of free radicals.
  4. High blood sugar levels cause  proteins in the body to convert to glucose, resulting in cell damage. In the process of converting proteins to glucose, massive free radicals are produced. This vicious cycle leads to irreversible complications. One research has shown that vegetarians and people who frequently consume antioxidants have lower chances of developing diabetes.

The ageLOC™ Discovery

Have You Ever Wondered Why Some People Look Younger Than They Really Are?

New research has recently revealed a major, previously hidden source of aging within each of us:  an internal free radical generator in the epidermis. Present on the surface of our cells, this invisible enemy is capable of generating skin damaging free radicals around the clock; increasing as we age. Unlike other free radicals that come from exposure to the sun or pollutants, our genes control its activity.

This internal free radical generator can produce free radicals so quickly that even antioxidants need some additional help in slowing it down.

The unique solution: slow the production of these skin damaging free radicals at their source, and slow the visible signs of aging before they start.

In an additional breakthrough, Nu Skin scientists have recently identified an exclusive blend of ingredients that slow production of free radicals in the epidermis.

Introducing ageLOC—technology designed to reduce the visible signs of aging by targeting an invisible source of your aging appearance.

We target the Source and the Symptons.

Shocking Facts on Free Radicals

What are free radicals?

  • Free radicals are highly reactive, short-lived compounds that can destroy the body’s fats, proteins and nucleic acids (DNA).
  • The cells in our body are attacked by free radicals for at least 73,000 times everyday. Studies have proven that at least 100 kinds of degenerative diseases are related to the damage caused by free radicals. Scientists have identified free radical damage as “the root to all illnesses”.
  • While Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as “free radical scavengers” and hence prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals.  Health problems such as heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer etc are all contributed by oxidative damage. Antioxidants may also enhance immune defense and therefore lower the risk of cancer and infection.

20 Shocking Facts on Free Radicals

Ist Fact: Free Radicals Exists Everywhere

Free radicals can be produced within our body or from our living environment. When white blood cells are protecting other cells, massive numbers of free radicals are produced; even anemic states can release free radicals. Our living environment is also not free from free radicals. Do you know that smoking a single cigarette produce 10,000,000,000,000,000 free radicals! Intense radiation (ultraviolet ray, X-ray), waste gases (carbo monoxide, carbo dioxide) and burnt meat consumed by the human body produced free radicals too.

2nd Fact: Free Radicals Destroy Cells

First, it may directly damage our cells, including lipids, proteins as well as the genetic material in cell – the DNA. If a damaged DNA gene sequence is not excised or repaired before a cell divides, the damage becomes permanent. Through alterations in the DNA structure, these damaged cells are potentially cancerous.  This may lead to several other complications related to cell death such as arteriosclerosis, stroke, heart disease, cataract, diabetes, and many kinds of cancer. To list down all the negative effects of free radicals, the list would be endless.

Vitamins for Chronic Disease Prevention in Adults

Clinical Applications

Robert H. Fletcher, MD,MSc; Kathleen M. Fairfield, MD,DrPH

JAMA. 2002;287:3127-3129.

Vitamin deficiency syndromes such as scurvy and beriberi are uncommon in Western societies. However, suboptimal intake of some vitamins, above levels causing classic vitamin deficiency, is a risk factor for chronic diseases and common in the general population, especially the elderly. Suboptimal folic acid levels, along with suboptimal levels of vitamins B6 and B12, are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, neural tube defects, and colon and breast cancer; low levels of vitamin D contribute to osteopenia and fractures; and low levels of the antioxidant vitamins (vitamins A, E, and C) may increase risk for several chronic diseases. Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone. Pending strong evidence of effectiveness from randomized trials, it appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements. The evidence base for tailoring the contents of multivitamins to specific characteristics of patients such as age, sex, and physical activity and for testing vitamin levels to guide specific supplementation practices is limited. Physicians should make specific efforts to learn about their patients’ use of vitamins to ensure that they are taking vitamins they should, such as folate supplementation for women in the childbearing years, and avoiding dangerous practices such as high doses of vitamin A during pregnancy or massive doses of fat-soluble vitamins at any age.
